Snapping

The snapping feature helps you draw by automatically aligning elements with each other and with the scene grid. If the Snap modifier is on, a small black ring appears under the pointer when you drag an element. Flash displays a heavier circle when two points can be precisely aligned and snapped.

To turn snapping off and on:

Do one of the following:

Select the arrow tool and click the Snap modifier in the toolbox.
Choose View > Snap. A checkmark is displayed next to the command when it is on.

When moving or reshaping elements, the position of the arrow tool on the item provides the reference point for the snap ring. For example, if you move a filled shape by dragging near its center, the center point snaps to grid lines and other items. This is particularly useful for snapping shapes to motion paths for animating.

To adjust snapping tolerances:

Choose File > Assistant and choose Snap to Grid from the pop-up menu.

To make sure that Flash snaps to snap points when dragging:

Begin dragging from a corner or center point.
